last one of these was on the …13th. ok.

Tuesday through Thursday have all kinda blurred together at this point. I walked Sheila home, read, went to the library, read, sunburned somewhere in that all. I do that a lot, to varying extents. Derp.

Friday is, I’m fairly certain, the day I scheduled an appointment with the DMV to take the written driving test, contacted the local equivalent of the chain of command of M5, and … read in the sun? probably.

Saturday Sheila and I gardened and saw IM3 with Father.

Sunday we did more gardening and Mother had a Social. We hid upstairs.

Monday Mother and I went to Chinatown, and it was actually pretty good. Public transportation and fresh cookies and walking and busy markets. And boba chai. Yes.

Yesterday …didn’t do anything much of anything. Read GOT in the backyard.

Today Sheila and I went to our cousins’ last concert. Two of three of that household are in the bands at their school, and neither of them will be in it any more (one’s graduating, one’s just quitting) (the eldest is way past graduated from hs), so we thought we should finally attend one.

I think that a lot of the reason Jarvis has become so human is because Tony treats him like he’s human. Tony talks to Jarvis in a very colloquial way. He says “you up?” when he knows damn well that Jarvis is operational. He says “throw a little hot-rod red in there” instead of “paint components x, y, and z with red paint #20.” Tony treats all his machinery like that—Dummy and You, especially—and Jarvis is no exception.

Jarvis has become much more human since Iron Man 1. He actually displayed emotions in Iron Man 3—specifically when he feared for Tony’s life, his voice sounded terribly frightened, and in instances like the second gif where he said “I need to sleep” and not “My battery is depleted.” Jarvis has grown and changed, as any self-aware creature does. He has become human because he is treated as such.

Every now and then, something comes along on your dash that opens your eyes and makes you question assumptions you didn’t even realize you were making.

This former teenage girl fell in love with Rush, RPGs, Russian literature, ancient history, sci fi flicks, and Led Zeppelin. I’d say she had pretty good taste. So why have I always defaulted to marginalizing or dismissing the tastes of other teenage girls? Why have I always counted the large teenage female presence in fandom as a black mark against it, or at least something that needs to be explained or surmounted for older fans to participate or engage? Why have I assumed that teenage girls as a whole are incapable of critical analysis or meaningful engagement with the same media that I enjoy, when it was the critical analysis and meaningful engagement of a teenage girl that got me into much of the same media I enjoy now?
